Find The Best Wedding Photographers In South Africa To Take Pictures On Your Wedding Day

It is very unfortunate that the wedding event only lasts one day and a couple should be able to remember that very special day. Wedding photographers are very important people as they help you preserve that special memory and you will be able to see you wedding photos maybe 50 years from now when you are old, wrinkled and still madly in love with your spouse.

There are a lot of good wedding photographers in South Africa, the best been in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Bloemfontein and Durban. This article is going to help you find the best wedding photographers for that very special day. Hiring a good and professional photographer is just as important as any part of the wedding planning process.

What are the options available when selecting a wedding photographer?

There are a wide variety of options for you when you are looking to hire a wedding photographer to take pictures on your wedding day. There are also a wide range of wedding photo albums from Dion, CNA and even Pick And Pay. The albums come in different shapes, sizes, color, material, make-up and price. Try and look for that wedding album that both you and your spouse would be proud to show your grandchildren one day. Some of the most popular manufacturers of wedding albums and photographers here in Johannesburg are

  • Frame & Shutter Photography,
  • Dormehl Photograhy
  • Creative Albums
  • The Wedding Photographer
  • Lize Wessels
  • Just Shoot Photography

You can contact me for a list of all the wedding photographers as well as their contact details. We have a list of professionals in all the 9 Provinces of South Africa. Ensure that you thoroughly compare the albums before you rush to make a purchase. Make sure that you choose the best the frame and finish process of your photos. Most of the photographers that I know carry samples of different finishes. I personally prefer the glossy, luster, semi-matte, pebble finish, spray texture and oil finishes as they have this wonderful look and feel that lasts.

Important things to consider when selecting a wedding photographer

Ensure that you hire a photographer who specializes and is well known in the wedding field. An experienced photographer must be experienced in wedding procedures and know the ceremony and reception sites well. This will ensure that he or she anticipates you and your spouse's next move and will be always in the proper place at exactly the perfect time to picture all the special moments. A good wedding photographer needs to be a very good communicator as well, especially good at reading signs and following eye signals. It does not matter the photographer is the best money can buy... if you cannot communicate with him or her them chances of having a complete flop will be high. So get someone you are comfortable working with. This alone can either make or break your wedding day and your photographs... so be wise.

Take a look at the photographer's previous work and call one or two of his/her former customers. Did the photographer capture the excitement and emotion of the bridal couple? If the answer is yes then chances are he/she will be able to do the same for you. The wedding album must unfold just like a story book -- the story of your wonderful wedding day. Talk to your photographer about the photos you want so that he/she understands what you want and will not be in doubt. A professional wedding photographer must have a long list of suggested poses to select from. You can get ideas by taking a look at albums that are about to be delivered, or proofs of weddings photographed recently. The photographer's style of photography will reflect in these. Some photographers are known for informal poses, while others specialize in peaceful formal shots. Others can do both.... the choice is yours.

Most South African wedding photographers can provide references of clients that were pleased with their work  Others may even give you the names from weddings they performed many years ago and this will not reflect the true skill of the photographer as he/she will have changed or that type of photography will be outdated. Its best to ask for recent pictures only.. say perhaps in the last 6 or so months as this will provide you with a good idea of the work that you are going to get work. Ask questions, don't be shy--- if the previous customers were pleased with their work there will definitely tell you. Was the photographer prompt, cordial, dressed correctly delivered as promised. You must also compare the prices and consider the number, size and finish of the photographs and the type of album the photographer will utilize.

Will the photographer give you the proofs, or he will try and sell you those to. You will need the proofs if you are going to develop the photos later on such as enlarging them and so on. Other photographers prefer not to work with proofs but rather supply you with a finished album after the wedding day.

Watch out!

Ensure that the wedding photographer you are interviewing  is going to be the one who will photograph your wedding and not his associate. Some unscrupulous photography companies send their best photographer to perform the sales pitch and when they have the deal signed and sealed they send the armatures. So you better watch out and beware of this trap. Make sure you meet with the photographer who will shoot your wedding

You also have to know the rules of the church where you are going to have the reception as some traditional churches dont want anyone taking pictures inside the cathedral . Communicate with the photographer and make sure he/she understands the rules and regulations of the church before planning the ceremony photos.
