How To Cover A Wedding Cake In Royal Icing - Add A Ribbon To Spice Up The Cake
The wedding cake is an important part of the the wedding celebration and needs to be baked by someone who is skilled. The wedding cake will be the center of all attraction and will need to perfect. Wedding cakes come in different shapes and sizes and its common to have some colourful icing on the wedding cake. You can bake your own cake and this article is going to show you how to cover wedding cakes with royal icing and a ribbon. The ribbon is used to make the cake attractive.
I have outlined easy to follow steps that I use when I am baking Royal icing wedding cakes for clients and I am sure that you will be able to follow them and improve on your baking. You will need the equipment that I have listed below. Don't worry yourself if you do not have all of them as you can always improvise. I do hope that you find them useful and you will let me know how this goes. Covering a cake in Royal Icing will become as simple a spreading peanut butter onto bread.
Equipment list needed to cover a wedding cake in royal icing
You will need the following equipment for this exercise:
- A turn table
- A straight edge
- A palette knife
- A side scraper
- A sharp knifeCling film
- A soft brush
- A bowl of Royal Icing
Ensure that the royal icing is not too hard or too soft. The icing should be in a wide bowl and that will allow space to maneuver your baking stick. When this is done you will need to place the wedding cake onto the turn table. I suggest that you place the cake on a central position on the table so that it much easier to ice.
Take the palette knife and place a large dollop of icing onto the top of the wedding cake. You can cover the rest of the royal icing with the cling wrap to prevent it from drying out.
Gently spread the dollop of royal icing evenly over the top of the wedding cake only. At this point you can paddle down the icing for about 7 minutes following a backwards and forwards motion. Be careful not to break the cake as you turn it on the turntable. You will notice a lot of unwanted air bubbles being produced from the icing. You should really be worried about any royal icing spilling over the edges right now. Clean the knife after this.
Remove icing from the sides of the cake and live the wedding cake to dry. You can go back to the cake as it should be dry after about two hours. You can then apply icing to the sides of the cake. Use the palette knife to remove any extra icing which has overflowed over the top part of the wedding cake. This is how you your wedding cakes royal icing with ribbon
